Bikeathon Photos

What a perfect day for our Bikeathon, very little wind, sunny, but not too hot. Everything seemed to run smoothly, everyone that I spoke to had enjoyed themselves.

Members of the committee and friends arrived to setup the start/finish area at Waitrose. George Reeves (Checkpoint Manager), David Nicholls (Chairman), Alan Meredith, Pauline Woods, Maurice and Kate Sarazin, Ernie Pendrey(Safety Officer), Martin Mumford, Brenda Joyce, Sarah Joyce, Lisa Joyce, Terry Joyce (that's me) with friends and family whose names I do not know. Put up tables, chairs, gazebo's, set out cones, put up signs and more.

Other members of the Committee managed the checkpoints and marshalled

Jackie Hardy and team at Cecil Jones.
Jacqueline and Rob James and team at The Red Lion.
John and Gina Enfield and team at Sutton Hall.
Martin Mumford and Helen Holder

I must thank all of our volunteers that gave their time to support our fight against Leukaemia. I can't name them all, but they should be very proud of what they have achieved.

I must also thank the following individuals, groups and businesses.

Waitrose for their continuing support of our cause, with the use of their premises, donation of supplies and the helpfulness of the staff.

KeyMed for sponsoring the Bikeathon, which allowed us to make the event more evident through the use of additional advertising and letters to individuals and businesses. This was a great success, we had an additional 150 riders this year.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council for their support and assistance.

1312 Squadron Southend-on-Sea for providing Marshals.

The Police for helping with the road traffic.

Estuary FM, providing an excellent entertainment for the start/finish area. Music, requests, interviews and announcements.

Green Wheels Cycles for providing cycle safety checks and repairs.

Cecil Jones School for allowing us to use its grounds and facilities as a check point.

The Red Lion, Great Wakering for allowing us the use of its car park and facilities as a check point.

To Tabor Farms for allowing us the use of the barn and grounds of Sutton Hall as a check point.

The Southend Lions for their help at Cecil Jones.

Thanks to St John Ambulance for providing First Aid cover for the Bikeathon.

and last but not least, you the riders. Without you we wouldn't have the opportunity to make so much money for Leukaemia Research.

If I've missed you out, please let me know so that I can rectify my oversight.

It takes many people to organise and run a Bikeathon, all unpaid volunteers. We always need more people than we get. Can YOU spend a few hours helping us?
